Sony Ericsson P900 - it's official

sep810.bmp Still no news from Sony Ericsson, but nice of 02 yesterday to confirm in its video press release the existence of a model called the Sony Ericsson P900. This is destined to be the successor to the popular P800 and if rumours are correct will arrive before then end of the year.

Read on for more details

The Sony Ericsson P900 features the following revisions to the original

* Much better screen - 65k colours to put it in line with handsets like the Sharp GX20
* Smaller, thinner and generally much cooler casing
* Proper metallic stylus (not the rubbish plastic one on the P800)
* Real removable keypad
* Symbian OS 7

The phone certainly needs a revamp as it will face stiff opposition this autumn from the Orange SPV2, Treo 600 and Nokia 6600.

If SonyEricsson, who actually has achieved a lot pulling themselves together, for once could peek at the Nokia op.system (or try Microsoft) this would have been THE only phone.
The P900 is the only phone gathering it all into one unit. Business suitable calendar, stunning games, Mp3 music player, movie player, camera, etc, and all presented in the best sized 65k screen around.
However, usability details are never to be forgotten to make customers hand up their wallets and let go of such an amount of money to get a product! Why not a (real) Windows-inspired interface instead of pretending they've invented something new of their own? An example is lack of text beneath the icons! Usability, ladies and gentlemen, usability. Fonts and disposition is another detail Nokia does best (in 3650, 7650, 6600).
But hey, this IS a PDA and phone in one - and it work!
