Hovercraft vacuum cleaner
A Glasgow-based company has developed a new type of vacuum cleaner that rides on a cushion of air, gliding over carpets and hard floor surfaces like a hovercraft, writes ERM magazine.
The Airider, which has taken eight years to develop, uses patented aerodynamic technology to create a unique floating action. It is virtually weightless when turned on, and has no wheels, making it suitable for use on hard wood floors.
Developed by Glaswegian company, Air Rider Systems, the bagless 1400-watt cleaner has been designed to offer ease of use and increased manoeuvrability. It is also equipped with a patented stretch hose to increase reach and decrease storage space.
Expected to retail for £199, the Airider, which was unveiled at this year's HomeTech household appliances show in Cologne, Germany, will be launched in the UK in April.
According to a spokesperson for Air Rider Systems, only one model will be available at launch, but several other versions will follow in due course.

We still have a Hoover Constellation in the attic. But if you want to see the new age in more efficient and healthier carpet cleaning which blows no air out at all go to http://www.edginton.info/arc

Yep, not much different to a Hoover Constellation at all, except it probably won't be as sturdy. Someone ought to tell them it was done fifty years ago... Don'tcha just love innovation?

These folks need to learn how to use more than just the default render setting in SolidWorks. How unprofessional.

Won't this just blow the dirt & dust you're trying to vacuum up into the air?

Anybody remember the Hoover Constellation from the 50's? Also blew air out the bottom so it could be moved around easier. See http://www.74simon.co.uk/hoover2.html for an example.
