Flying Taxis in London
It may all sound a bit Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds, but if Avcen, the London-based developer, is to be believed we'll all soon be flying to Heathrow in Jetsons-style Jetpod taxis. In under five years, the company reckons that its Jetpods could be whisking us to the airport in minutes for just £40. The small aeroplanes need just 400 feet to land on, with is the tenth of the size of a normal runway.
The plane's twin turbo engines apparently make it extremely quiet. There's room for five passengers, and, at £40, the fare is about the same as a black cab (although you probably don't get the benefit of the pilot's opinions on politics as you do with black cab drivers).
Proof of concept flight tests will get under way in eighteen months.
