Philips wireless music system

01311sz1i8785400

Philips is taking a shot at the multi-room audio server system market with its Wireless Music Centre system. Set to launch in April the apparently easy to install solution includes a main unit with a 40 Gigabyte hard disk with CD player and FM tuner which wirelessly streams music to up to five table-top speakers systems. The system can apparently playback up to six different tunes in six different rooms.

Philips also claims the price of the system is much cheaper than rivals with the main unit to retails for $999 and the speaker systems selling for $300 each. The music is streamed in either MP3 or WMA formats and distributed to the speakers via 802.11b wireless. No news on a UK launch, but we’d imagine it will be a few months after the US.

Can you help a complete technodork out here?
I have a WACS700 that is unable to read cds. Philips tell me it is now an obsolete unit, and therefor can not be repaired, however, my son has managed to get music from his laptop onto the 700. Unfortunately he is to busy to show me how to do the same, and rather than keep asking him, pointlessly, I was wondering if you could share this info with me.
