Nikon D50 entry-level SLR camera

D50silverpressThe digital camera revolution has dramatically swelled the ranks of photography enthusiasts now that all that messy photo development business can be bypassed. With high quality pictures being instantly transferable to any PC, it’s a good time for someone to use the benefits of digital technology to lure people to the realm of the photography elite; and that someone is Nikon.

Pioneering an entry-level SLR camera, Nikon reveals the D50 featuring the best of both of the photography worlds. On the one hand the D50 is capable of massive 6.1 megapixel images, which are taken with a lightning fast 0.2-second power-up and is capable of continuous shooting at 2.5 frames per second for great action shots. The shutter speeds are variable from 30 seconds to 1/4,000 seconds and the camera is capable of making a huge number of alterations to the image automatically using Nikon’s 3D Colour Matrix Metering II.

On the flip side, the D50 swiftly stores the images on an SD card, has 2” LCD screen and an integrated flash. Seven digital vari-program selections including Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Child, Sports, Close up, and Night Portrait make automatic adjustments for white balance, sharpening, contrast, colour saturation and hue for the best possible pic whatever the conditions. USB 2.0 interface ensures that the Nikon D50 has all the functionality of a normal digital camera by enabling instant image transfer to any PC.

Nikon has really pushed the boat out incorporating all the best features of both SLR cameras and digital photography and the price is aimed to appeal to the beginner SLR enthusiast. The recommended price of £549.99 for the D50 body is good especially if you have some SLR lenses kicking about already, as it will cost an extra £100 for the extra AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. The Nikon D50 will be available from June in the UK.
